We drive about 80 km along a paved road from El Calafate to Perito Moreno Glacier. From the very beginning this tour surprises us. As soon as we leave the town, on the right, we can see Argentino Lake and its Redonda Bay. There, a wide variety of avifauna can be appreciated, mainly black-necked swans (Cygnus melancoryphus), flamingoes, Fuegian steamer duck (Tachyeres pteners), sheldgeese (Chloephaga).

During the first 40 kilometers, we drive through the Patagonian steppe. Once we cross the national park entrance, some arboreal vegetation appears. Most of them belong to the genus of Nothofagus (pumilio, Antarctica) and Prunus (cherries). Some colourful flowers can be seen, among which notros (Embothrium coccineum) stand out due to their dark red color.

Once in the glacier we are shocked by its majesty. We walk along the footbridges to get different views of the 5km-long glacier front. It is important to respect the several signs in the park and not to pass the footbridges.
The forest rangers are in charge of preserving the beauty of the place as well as informing tourists (together with our guides) all along the tour.

Recomendaciones

• Entrance fee to the National Park must be paid in cash and in Argentine pesos.
• Lunch: either a lunch box can be carried or have lunch in the snack bar in the park.
• Clothing: it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes, warm clothes (sweater, sweatshirts and windbreaker or waterproof anorak), sunglasses, sun cream, gloves, a cap or a woolen hat in case it is very cold.

Importante

This excursion can be complemented with Safari Nautico, a one-hour navigation that runs along the southern front of the Perito Moreno Glacier. However, it cannot be combined with the Minitrekking excursion, operated by the company Hielo y Aventura, which must be booked separately and in advance.

Cancelaciones

• Online purchases can be canceled without penalty 48 hours previous to the tour.
• If the cancellation occurs due to health problems and the passenger can not take the excursion, must present the medical certificate that supports the situation in order to evaluate a possible return.
